Nurse Notes

Bielstein Middle School

If your student is sick:

· They MUST be fever free (less than 100.0 F) for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of fever reducing medications (such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen/Advil/Motrin) before returning to school.

· They MUST be free of diarrhea/vomiting and tolerating food and water for 24 hours before returning to school.

· Please call me if your student has been diagnosed with a contagious condition such as COVID, pink eye, strep throat, chicken pox, head lice, impetigo, ringworm or FLU.

Medications:

· Students are only permitted to carry medications on them while on campus if there is a signed permission form from the physician. Parents must deliver medication to the clinic IN THE ORIGINAL CONTAINERS with ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTATION.

· Any medication needing to be given ‘every 8 hours or 3 times a day’ can be given at home and not needed in the clinic. Please be mindful of the space/capacity of cabinets with the number of students on campus. Also, we don’t want to interrupt classroom time for unnecessary clinic visits.

· NO STOCK MEDICATIONS are kept in the clinic for students. These include Tylenol, Motrin, cough drops, tums, Neosporin, etc.

Immunizations:

· The Texas Department of Health REQUIRES all school age children to be up to date on immunizations. Children are excluded from school until the required immunization documentation is obtained, and a copy is given to me. You may refer to their website for a complete list of required immunizations based on your student’s age/grade.

· There are circumstances where an Immunization Exemption is necessary. Please refer to the Texas Department of Health for reasons, forms and documentation to have signed by physicians.
